Beachy Waves for Stubborn Hair

This look has become one of my favorites things to do since getting my hair cut. I’ve always loved the look of waves, but my hair is so thick and heavy that it always reverted back to being straight in a few hours. If those “spray and scrunch” tutorials don’t work for you, you may want to give this a try!

I’ve recently discovered a couple awesome products and a technique to get my waves to stay all day long!

First, I wash my hair twice with shampoo then condition. Right now I am using TRESemeé Expert Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner with Marula Oil, but I’ve found what I use for this step doesn’t matter, as long as it’s a product that usually works on my hair.

Once I get out of the shower, I brush through my hair with a wet brush and get all the excess water out.

I don’t always do this step, but sometimes I use L’Oreal Studio Body Builder Mousse to give my hair a little volume in the morning.

I then take a leave-in conditioner and work it into the bottom few inches of my hair. Lately, I’ve been rotating using Ion Color Solutions Intense Leave-in Therapy and eva.nyc Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer.

For the last product, I take Ouai Haircare Wave Spray and spray it throughout my hair, avoiding the roots.

After I’m done with the products, I twist my hair up into a turbo twist and let it dry for about 30 minutes (important to note – I shower at night). I then let my hair air dry until it’s SLIGHTLY damp. This is the most important part for me. If it’s even just a little too wet, the waves will fall out very quickly in the morning.

When my hair is sufficiently dry, I separate my hair down the middle and do a Dutch braid on each side. I then leave the braids in all night – the longer, the better.

In the morning, I leave the braids in while I’m doing my makeup and getting dressed. When I’m just about ready to go, I take the braids out and arrange the waves how I want them. If I really need them to look fresh all day, I use a little hairspray.

I’m loving this hairstyle! What’s your favorite go-to look?

Review: Dove Daily Moisture Shampoo

Dove Daily Moisture Shampoo has an amazing scent – one of my favorites for a shampoo. I used to be really hesitant to use anything other than Pantene because I thought it was the only thing that worked well on my hair. However, I really enjoyed using this product. I’ve actually gone through two bottles of this shampoo, and I will definitely repurchase it again.

The consistency is a little thinner than Pantene, but it’s not too thin that it’s runny. It also has a very good lather.  It always leaves my hair feeling extremely clean, and the scent lasts all day in my hair. My hair also feels very soft and silky after using this shampoo, and I can definitely tell a difference when I use it.

Overall: A+

My thoughts on the products:

I really enjoyed using this Cover FX Natural Finish Foundation. I got it as a sample from Sephora, and it’s really nice. It applied beautifully with a beauty blender, and the coverage was very good. It’s listed as a “medium-high coverage with a radiant finish.” I think it gives the skin a very natural finish because the face doesn’t look flat, but it doesn’t look overly radiant. The Urban Decay NAKED Palette is one of my all-time favorites. Toasted has always been a color I’ve loved, but this combination was a new one for me. I LOVE it. I will definitely be doing this look a look in the future. This lip combo is also really lovely. The NYX Retractable Liner gives the CoverGirl Lipstick a lot of depth and richness. My thoughts on the products:

I love the finish of this Too Faced Peach Perfect foundation, but the color is a hair too dark for me. I will be exchanging it because I don’t want to wait until summer to use it! It applies best with a beauty blender, and the staying power is very good. The Tarte Shape Tape is a very good concealer. It blends out well with either a beauty blender or a brush, and the coverage is extremely good. I thought I was really going to like the Laura Mercier Eye Primer, but my eyeshadow ended up creasing by the end of the day (I had been wearing makeup for about eight hours). I was pretty disappointed in that, but I’m going to keep testing it to see if I can make it work. The more I use the Clinique High Impact Mascara, the more I really like it. It gives my lashes a beautiful fluttering look. The color of the Maybelline Brow Pomade is perfect for me, and I really enjoyed using this product when it was new. However, now that the tip is gone, it’s gotten more difficult to apply. The Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick in Sell Out has a very comfortable and long-wearing formula. It survived me eating too meals, both of which were oily. The color is gorgeous and natural, and I can see this color becoming one I reach for often.

Sephora Haul: October 2017

I discovered an old Sephora gift card lying around, and combined with the Friends and Family sale last week, I decided to treat myself! My order came in on Monday, and I’m super excited to try everything out. Here’s what I got:

Too Faced Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation (Warm Beige)

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipstick (Gingerbread Man – currently sold out)

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick (Sell Out)

beautyblender blendercleanser solid

Laura Mercier Eye Basics (Wheat – reward)

Boscia Skincare for Your Selfie (reward)

Here’s a picture where I’m wearing the foundation, eye primer, and lip color in Sell Out:

My first impressions are that I love the foundation, but it’s a tad too dark for me right now. The eye primer didn’t work super well for me; my eyeshadow had creased at the end of the day. I LOVE the lip color and formula. I will continue to test these products out and let you know what I think!

LOTD: October 11, 2017

The only new product I’ve used in this look compared to my last post was the Fenty Foundation. I seem to be in the minority with this product…I love the shade range, but the foundation doesn’t really work for me. I’ve tried three different applications – with my fingers, with a beauty blender, and with a brush. The only one that worked remotely well was with a brush. The other two application types looked very patchy, and the rest of my makeup wouldn’t blend into it. Furthermore, no matter how much I set it, it transfers throughout the day if I even touch my face, and I’ve never had that problem before…even having oily skin. I’ve seen that this foundation also doesn’t work for dry skin, so I would really only recommend this foundation if you have normal skin. If you zoom in on my face, you can see it didn’t do a super great job covering my check blemishes, and I had even tried multiple layers as suggested. All in all, definitely not my cup of tea. IMG_1755.JPG

NOTW: OPI “Cement the Deal”

I’ve been using exclusively gel colors for the past few months, so I decided to change it up on Friday. First, I primed my nails with a coat of Sally Hansen Maximum Growth Nourishing Nail Color. Then I applied two coats of “Cement the Deal” by OPI. Finally, I finished it off with a coat of Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat. I’m loving this shade as a transition into fall!

LOTD: September 30, 2017

I used a lot of new (to me) products in this look! I’ve really been having fun with this NYX palette lately. It has a great set of colors that combine to make a ton of beautiful looks. Another new product that I used in this look are the Too Faced Peach Perfect Foundation, which I really enjoyed using. It has a nice finish and is long-lasting. The NudeStix Concealer has about medium coverage but doesn’t blend super easily. Finally, Becca Champagne Pop is a beautiful highlight which I’ve been getting a lot of use out of since I purchased it.
