This look has become one of my favorites things to do since getting my hair cut. I’ve always loved the look of waves, but my hair is so thick and heavy that it always reverted back to being straight in a few hours. If those “spray and scrunch” tutorials don’t work for you, you may want to give this a try!
I’ve recently discovered a couple awesome products and a technique to get my waves to stay all day long!
First, I wash my hair twice with shampoo then condition. Right now I am using TRESemeé Expert Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner with Marula Oil, but I’ve found what I use for this step doesn’t matter, as long as it’s a product that usually works on my hair.
Once I get out of the shower, I brush through my hair with a wet brush and get all the excess water out.
I don’t always do this step, but sometimes I use L’Oreal Studio Body Builder Mousse to give my hair a little volume in the morning.
I then take a leave-in conditioner and work it into the bottom few inches of my hair. Lately, I’ve been rotating using Ion Color Solutions Intense Leave-in Therapy and eva.nyc Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer.
For the last product, I take Ouai Haircare Wave Spray and spray it throughout my hair, avoiding the roots.
After I’m done with the products, I twist my hair up into a turbo twist and let it dry for about 30 minutes (important to note – I shower at night). I then let my hair air dry until it’s SLIGHTLY damp. This is the most important part for me. If it’s even just a little too wet, the waves will fall out very quickly in the morning.
When my hair is sufficiently dry, I separate my hair down the middle and do a Dutch braid on each side. I then leave the braids in all night – the longer, the better.
In the morning, I leave the braids in while I’m doing my makeup and getting dressed. When I’m just about ready to go, I take the braids out and arrange the waves how I want them. If I really need them to look fresh all day, I use a little hairspray.
I’m loving this hairstyle! What’s your favorite go-to look?
