Fashion Trends 2011: Lace

This trend may be my favorite trend of the year. I really love how you can change the color scheme of your outfit just by what color you wear under the lace. Also, I love the feminism of lace and how you can change the vibe of it just based on what you pair it with (such as, lace and crochet or lace and fringe).

Lace is really popular among my friends and I. There are many days where we all happen to wear it without planning. Furthermore, my friend, Lauren, and I, each wore something with lace on it almost the entire first week of school.

All of these items are from Rue21, except for the stick on nail polish. The Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips in Laced Up can be found at Ulta, Target, Walmart, and many other places.

Fashion Trends 2011: Tribal Patterns

Though I have seen a lot of tribal patterns this year, this trend can be hard to find at some stores. I really like this trend because I think it is really unique. This one, unlike many of the others, is actually something that we might see rise and fade throughout the years. Though I didn’t get my first tribal clothing item until recently (I got a purple dress at Rue21), I have always been into tribal jewelry.

The first six items can be found at Arden B., the second 17 things were found at  Forever21, and the last nine things were found at Free People.

(I actually found two guys’ things at Forever21, and they are featured in the slideshow!)

[EDIT: I just saw that Rue21 has some tribal things.]

Stripes and the nautical trend are definitely in this year. (See my first post about them here.)  Like animal print, stripes are one of the easiest ways to dress up an outfit.

Lately, the floral print is one of my favorite things to wear. I love how you can make it look really girly, or you can pair it with something edgy to give off a mixed vibe. You can find floral prints pretty much everywhere, but I really noticed them in Forever21.

Fashion Trends 2011: Mixing Patterns

Although I do not really wear this trend, I have seen many people at my school and in stores flaunting it. I believe that mixing patterns is an acquired taste. I don’t necessary love it because I feel it goes against all fashion rules that I was taught when I started out. Then again, maybe that’s why so many people love it. It’s fun to break the rules of fashion now and then. :)

I feel like this trend is more popular when it comes to entire outfits instead of singular pieces, so I tried to find pictures of people rocking mixed pattern outfits.

Fashion Trends 2011: Mixing Black and White

From here on out, I will be posting the remaining fashion trends of 2011 in their own individual posts. This first one will be mixing blacks and whites. Just like the each of the colors on its own, I believe that mixing black and white never goes out of style. Whether you choose to feature mostly black, mostly white, or an even mix of the two, this style is very chic.

You could have an all white or all black outfit on, then accessorize it with mixed black and white jewelry. On the other hand, you could have a mixed black and white outfit with singular black and white accessorizes. There are so many ways you can wear this trend; it’s very hard to go wrong.

Fashion Trends 2011: Part One

These are trends that I have noticed are popular in 2011. There are some other ones, but these are the generic go to fashions.

Pop of Color

Featuring Rue21 (click on to enlarge)

Bright colors are definitely in this year, especially during the summer. If you think brightly colored clothing is too daring for you, try just adding a colorful accessory, such as your purse or shoes. Personally, I love bright colors, so my closet is filled with them. There are many ways you can wear them. Some people like to wear all neutral colored clothing, such as black, and then use bright jewelry to bring the look together. Others like to wear all bright clothing and use neutral accessories. I almost always include a bright color in my outfit.

Mixing Colors

Some people like taking colors to a more extreme level by mixing them. Some of these are wearable for an everyday look. For example, I have many shirts that incorporate more than one color into the design. However, some other looks are quite outrageous and are for fashionably brave people. A demonstration of this look would be a person who wore a bright yellow shirt, red shorts, and a bright blue purse. It’s crazy, yet people do it. The examples I put together in the collage above are shirts that I think subtly show this trend without going too far.

Nude Tones

from Target

Just like many other people, I am really into nude tones right now. Although I do like the color for clothing, I especially love to accessorize with nude tones. For example, my new purse is coinciding with this trend. I feel that every girl needs a pair of nude heels, so I am on the prowl. I want them because they give the illusion that your legs are longer than they are, which I need. Also, if you are wearing a very busy outfit, than nude toned accessories can still dress you up without being overbearing.

White Out

Featuring Guess (click on to enlarge)

I don’t think I’ve ever known I time where white was not in style. It makes everyone look so clean and fresh. The best quality of white is that it goes with everything. You can match it with black, brown, metallics, and any other color or style you can think of. I don’t have many white clothing garments in my closet, but I do have many white accessories.

Going Black

Similar to white, black is always in style. However, black can be used in many ways. Black can look class or trashy depending on how you wear it. It is very important to make sure you use the color to express yourself in the best way possible. I actually have a lot of black clothing and accessories, but I never wear an entire black outfit. I always include another color in my outfit, just to brighten it up.
